Important: To avert firsthand meter dam age, never apply a multimeter to an electrical circuit where voltage is present.

Disconnect the 3-pivot Deutsch connector between the instrument harness and engine trim harness. Connect an ohmmeter between the white/tan wire, terminal "C," of the engine harness and a clean engine basis.

With the outboard fully Downwards, meter must prove a reading above lxxx Ω.

With the outboard fully Upward, meter must show a reading below 10 Ω.

  • If results agree, refer to Trim Guess Test on p. 291.
  • If results are different, supersede trim sender.

TRIM AND TILT SERVICE

Removal

Remove lower engine comprehend and disconnect the trim/tilt connectors. Refer to LOWER Encompass SERVICE on p. 82.

Remove the condom grommet from the blue/light-green trim/tilt cable connector.

Remove the terminals from the connector by using a suitable tool to depress the tab. While the tab is depressed, pull on the wire from the rear of the connector to release it from the connector.

Divide the trim/tilt unit wires in the braided tube to let removal through
the pigsty in the stern bracket.

Unscrew the manual release valve, raise the unit of measurement, and lock it in place with the tilt support.

Remove the external snap rings from the upper pin.

Use a punch to remove the upper pivot.

Retract the tilt cylinder rod.

Remove the external snap rings from the lower pivot.

Apply a punch to remove the lower pivot and remove the trim/tilt unit from the stern brackets.

Remove the unit from the stern brackets far plenty to remove the ground lead from the pump motor mounting screw.

Disassembly

Disassembly

Thoroughly clean the unit earlier disassembling. Scrub all exterior surfaces with a stiff brush and hot, soapy water to prevent surface dirt from contaminating internal parts.

E'er use a lint free store cloth when handling power trim/tilt components.

If painting the unit of measurement is required, paint it after information technology is completely assembled. Painting of individual components may cause flakes of paint to enter the hydraulic passages during assembly. Record the trim/tilt piston rods before painting.

There may be high pressure level behind some ability trim valves. To avoid injury
when removing manual release valve, be certain to encompass valve with a shop cloth until the
pressure is released. Wear prophylactic glasses.

Of import: Before removing manual release valve, relieve force per unit area past fully extending cylinder.

Screw the manual release valve in. Remove the retaining band using a small pick or screwdriver. Discard the retaining ring.

Slowly remove the manual release valve. There may exist force per unit area behind the valve—wear prophylactic glasses.

Inspect the manual release valve. Discard the O-rings on the housing.

Remove the four large motor flange retaining screws. Remove the motor and discard O-ring, screws, and washers.

Remove drive coupler from either the motor or the pump assembly.

Assembly

IMPORTANT: Use simply Evinrude/Johnson Bio degradable TNT Fluid to fill the hydraulic system.

Install drive coupler in pump associates.

Install a new motor O-ring.

Position the motor on the manifold and install four new screws and lock washers. Tighten the screws 35 to 50 in. lbs. (four to 5.6 Northward•m).

Oil O-rings and install them on the manual release valve. Oil and install the manual release valve. Tighten the valve to a torque of 45 to 55 in. lbs. (5.ane to vi.2 N•m).

Install new retaining ring in groove.

1.Retaining ring

Make full the oil reservoir up to the make full plug with Evinrude/Johnson Biodegradable TNT Fluid. Install and tighten the make full plug. Do not torque the plug at this time.

  1. Reservoir cap

Run the motor, then recheck oil level. Cycle the unit several times and check the oil level when the cylinder is fully extended. Oil should be level with bottom of fill port. Install and tighten the make full plug to a torque of 45 to 55 in. lbs. (v.1 to 6.2 N•thou).

Installation

Install the ground lead.

Place trim/tilt unit of measurement into position. Apply Triple-Guard grease to the lower pin and install the pivot.

If loosened, tighten the tilt tube nut to a torque of 45 to l ft. lbs. (61 to 68 N·m).

Install external snap rings on lower pin with sharp border of ring facing out.

Extend tilt cylinder rod to match with holes in hinge bracket.

Use Triple-Guard grease to upper pin and install the pivot.

Install external snap rings onto upper pin with abrupt edge facing out.
